Job Details

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Checkout Clerk acts as a point of contact for our customers. The duties of the Checkout Clerk include assisting customers in locating and purchasing merchandise, operating the cash register, stocking merchandise, recovering merchandise, cleaning the store, and performing other duties as assigned by the Store Manager to maximize store profitability and customer satisfaction while protecting company assets.

DUTIES and ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Offer quality customer care through friendly greetings and assistance to patrons.
• Utilize the cash register and scanner to list and calculate the customer's purchase total, receive payments, return change accurately, package the items, and offer assistance with merchandise selection as needed.
• Follow the prescribed methods for managing company goods; unpack shipments, keep track of inventory, restock shelves, and arrange merchandise displays.
• Responsible for ensuring the store's cleanliness through activities like trash disposal, dusting, floor mopping, restroom and receiving room sanitation, and assisting with sidewalk display preparations.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS:

• Effective oral and interpersonal communication skills are indispensable in various contexts.
• Understanding the importance of safety practices.
• Ability to comprehend and carry out planograms and guidelines for displaying merchandise.
• Skill in executing primary cash handling protocols.
• Basic mathematical skills.
• Aptitude in performing tasks associated with cash register usage.
• Aptitude for storing goods for distribution.

WORK EXPERIENCE and/or EDUCATION:

• It is preferable for applicants to have completed high school or its equivalent.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Frequent periods of walking and standing.
• Repetitive bending, stooping, and kneeling involved in operating the checkout area, organizing items, and receiving deliveries; pushing and/or pulling rolltainers for merchandise stocking may also be necessary.
• Regularly utilizing handheld scanners, pricing guns, box cutters, and merchandise containers, as well as managing equipment like two-wheel dollies, U-boats, and rolltainers are typical tasks.
• Consistent and correct raising of items weighing up to 40 pounds; intermittent lifting of objects weighing up to 55 pounds.
• Periodical scaling to a height of six feet with the aid of a step ladder.
• A lively setting with a moderate noise level.
• Sporadic exposure to outdoor weather environments.
